Getting Started with Seedance Video Generation: A Practical API Guide

When you add generated video to an application, the practical challenge is shaping prompts, reference media, output settings, async jobs, and clear failure cases.

This guide shows how to start with Seedance video generation using the documented endpoint POST https://api.acedata.cloud/seedance/videos.

What you can do

  • Generate video from content[].type = text.
  • Use image_url with role values first_frame and last_frame.
  • Use Seedance 2.0 reference_image, reference_audio, and reference_video.
  • Use Seedance 2.5 omni_reference_task_type for reference, edit, extend, or auto.

How it works

Send JSON to https://api.acedata.cloud/seedance/videos with accept: application/json, content-type: application/json, and an authorization header. Responses can include success, task_id, trace_id, and data.video_url.

Use explicit top-level fields such as resolution, ratio, and duration instead of legacy inline prompt parameters when possible.

Choosing a model

The 1.x family includes doubao-seedance-1-0-pro-250528, doubao-seedance-1-0-pro-fast-251015, doubao-seedance-1-5-pro-251215, doubao-seedance-1-0-lite-t2v-250428, and doubao-seedance-1-0-lite-i2v-250428. The 2.0 family includes doubao-seedance-2-0-260128, doubao-seedance-2-0-fast-260128, and doubao-seedance-2-0-mini-260615. Seedance 2.5 uses doubao-seedance-2-5-260628.

Duration ranges are 2–12 seconds for 1.0, 4–12 for 1.5 Pro, 4–15 for 2.0, and 4–30 for 2.5. Seedance 1.5 and 2.x can use -1 for automatic duration.

References and editing

For image-to-video, image_url must be an object such as {url: https://...}; a direct string can return a 400 error. Seedance 2.0 supports up to 9 images, 3 audio references, and 3 video references. Audio should be wav or mp3, each 2–15 seconds, total not exceeding 15 seconds and each item not exceeding 15 MB. Video should be mp4 or mov, each 2–15 seconds, total not exceeding 15 seconds.
